First: Sentimental Memories
When Rob and I were in college, he was part of an amazing band (woohoo Angry’s Cafe) made up of the most talented guys.

One of those guys was Paul (you have to look closely behind Rob and Joey). Paul went to Hendrix and obviously was super smart and the best drummer in the area. He was our in to the Hendrix Warehouse parties, but more than that, he was just a really smart, cool guy. When Rob found him on Facebook, we weren’t surprised at all that he had accomplished-partner in a law firm, owner of the Arkansas ghost tours, and still drumming. Oh yeah, he had recently opened one of the coolest places in Little Rock: Birdies
Rob and Paul
Birdies Caberet
Think of classy creepy-if you can picture it in your head. The picture in your head is probably so much less than how cool this place really is. Check out their website. We knew we wanted to check out this place, and when we heard that Paul’s metal band, Direwolf, was playing-that was a bonus! The metal that night brought us back to our early college years. It was awesome to see a crowd up on their feet, moving and screaming! Paul now sings as well in his band and without a doubt, they are AWESOME! Check them out on YouTube or your favorite streaming platform. They totally rocked.
Birdies had great drinks and the atmosphere could not be beat! They have so many events and the classy horror decorations really set the mood, making it a fun night out. If you are in town, check out their calendar. We honestly wanted to stay an extra night for the Lord of the Rings trivia night.
Friends & Family
We were so lucky to have friends and family meet us for the night out. I can’t tell you how much it revived my soul to see my good friend Terrah and husband Chris. It didn’t take long for us to start remembering all the trouble we used to get into as kids. There is something about spending time with people who have known you since elementary school. They know you inside and out and where you came from, who you were, and how far you have come, or in my case, haven’t come. They are the ones who remember in junior high running the streets in the early hours of the morning in a town that was so small we celebrated when we finally got a McDonald’s. Or they remember when we called our GT teacher at 3 in the morning to quit the Odyssey of the Mind competition the night before because we were immature teens. Or they are the ones who call you out because you had just spent the last 20 minutes talking to someone you might have crushed on in high school, only to have no clue that was who you were talking to … people change.
Our souls also needed to hang out and see Rob’s brother and our sister-in-law. Man, I know they are happy in Arkansas, but you really do not realize how much you are missing out on someone until you spend time with them again. I miss my sister-in-law. Leaving that night, I felt a hole in my heart. Being apart from family is hard, but grateful we had the few hours to watch Kira dance and talk. 🙂
