Let’s face it, the last couple years have not won any Peace awards. We find ourselves feeling the effects of a truly fallen world amidst pandemic, natural disasters, cultural unrest and more. Now more than ever, we need to look to the Prince of Peace to put away the feelings of uncertainty, anxiety and fears.
Our reading today helps us do just that. Read Psalm 121:
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From where does my help come?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
who made heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
4 Behold, he who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD is your keeper;
the LORD is your shade on your right hand.
6 The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
8 The LORD will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time forth and forevermore.
As Christians, we were given access to the Prince of Peace when he humbled himself as a baby and came to our world. Charles Spurgeon says it like this:
There is first, peace with God for he “hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ;” he hath put away the wall which separated us from Jehovah, and now there is “peace on earth” and “goodwill toward men.” When sin is put away, God has no cause of warfare against his creature: Christ has put our sins away, and therefore there is a virtual substantial peace established between God and our souls. This, however, might exist without our clearly understanding and rejoicing in it. Christ has therefore left us peace in the conscience. Peace with God is the treaty; peace in the conscience is the publication of it. Peace with God is the fountain, and peace with conscience is the crystal stream which issues from it. -Charles Spurgeon
Imagine! A fountain of peace with the most beautiful crystal streams of peace just flowing into us. For us who love Christ, this is the gift we received through Jesus Christ sacrifice! We know how the story ends! We know that there will be a day of no tears, no unrest, no anxiety! We should have peace because of Christ, we should rest in Him!
This is what Christmas is for us-a stream of peace!
For the mountains may depart
and the hills be removed,
but my steadfast love shall not depart from you,
and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,”
says the LORD, who has compassion on you.
Isaiah 54:10
Take heart, brothers and sisters in Christ! Jesus promises that His peace shall not be removed! Rest in Him today!
