Introduction
Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance? – Micah 6:18a
Scripture is always most telling when it starts with a question. Paul does this a lot. Jesus does this a lot, often times in response to people trying to trap him with questions. It makes for great suspense. Can you hear the courtroom drama music building?
Who can pardon sin? Who can forgive sins? and why would a God forgive my sin?
He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love. He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities underfoot. – Micah 6:18b-19a
Did you catch the why of the first verse? BECAUSE HE DELIGHTS IN STEADFAST LOVE! How cool is that? The God of all the universe DELIGHTS in us! Zephaniah 3:17 says he delights in us with dancing. Our God doesn’t see our sins, because he loves us. He sent us on this journey to experience the sacrifice he made so that we may know that love for us.
You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. You will show faithfulness to Jacob and steadfast love to Abraham, as you have sworn to our fathers from the days of old. – Micah 6:19b-20
Adoration
Father God,
Let the heavens praise your wonders, O LORD, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones! For who in the skies can be compared to the LORD? Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD, a God greatly to be feared in the council of the holy ones, and awesome above all who are around him? O LORD God of hosts, who is mighty as you are, O LORD, with your faithfulness all around you? – Psalm 89:5-8
We lift your name up and praise you for your love and faithfulness.
Confession
“O Father, we are gathered before you, the Maker of Heaven and Earth, whose chosen dwelling place is with the broken and contrite, to confess that we have sinned in thought and word and deed; we have not loved you with all our heart and soul, we have not loved you with all our mind and strength; we have not even loved our neighbor as ourselves.” – Missio Dei Confessional. Please forgive us for not recognizing your love and compassion and endless mercy towards us and others.
Thanksgiving
Father God, thank you for your steadfast love that keeps your word. Thank you for your faithfulness and your covenant keeping promises as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
