Introduction

Yesterday in our journey, we ventured into the beauty of Psalm 110, the most quoted Psalm of the Bible. Today we are going to pause on the beauty of the first verse and imagine ourselves listening as Jesus, himself quotes it.

Sit at My Right Hand
A Psalm of David.

The Lord says to my Lord:
“Sit at my right hand,
until I make your enemies your footstool.”

Of this opening phrase Patrick Reardon asks, “In all the Psalter, is there a line more precious and beloved than this?” (Christ in the Psalms, 217). The right hand points to a place of honor, authority, and power. Footstool is a symbol of complete and total victory. Jesus fulfills this role on the cross, but we see His Lordship in this exchange in Matthew when He quotes this verse while putting an end to the Pharisee’s questions.

Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question, saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said to him, “The son of David.” He said to them, “How is it then that David, in the Spirit, calls him Lord, saying,

‘The Lord said to my Lord,
Sit at my right hand,
until I put your enemies under your feet’?

If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?” And no one was able to answer him a word, nor from that day did anyone dare to ask him any more questions. – Matthew 22:41-46

The Pharisees failed at the time to realize they were face-to-face with “The Lord!” Can you imagine when that day comes for us? How precious will that day be?!?!?

Brothers and sisters in Christ, take heart today in our journey! THE LORD of Psalm 110–whose enemies are under his feet, who is sitting at the right hand of God, who we are able to call our Lord–is the very Jesus who died for us and offers us eternal life today!

Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. – Philippians 2:9-11

Adoration

Father God, Praise and glory to your name! May your lordship be praised here on Earth and in heaven! You are majestic and worthy of all praise! May we humbly come before you, bowed in honor to worship you today and sing praises to your name! You are so glorious and beautiful to us! May your power and glory always be on our lips! In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.

Confession

“O Father, we are gathered before you, the Maker of Heaven and Earth, whose chosen dwelling place is with the broken and contrite, to confess that we have sinned in thought and word and deed; we have not loved you with all our heart and soul, we have not loved you with all our mind and strength; we have not even loved our neighbor as ourselves. In your mercy, deepen our sorrow for the wrong we have done and for the good we have left undone, so that we may hate our sin with a holy hatred. But, please Father, do not leave us in sorrow. With you, O Lord, there is forgiveness. In your mercy, restore the joy of our salvation; so that we may love you with a holy love. Amen. ” – Missio Dei Confessional.
