Introduction

In 2 Samuel 7:11-17, we read how God, through the prophet Nathan, instructs David that salvation will rise from an heir through his line. It is a beautiful section of scripture in which God reminds David that his steadfast love will last forever, that God alone will build a forever kingdom and He will father the future son on the throne.

David responds with this beautiful prayer of gratitude:

Then King David went in and sat before the LORD and said, “Who am I, O Lord GOD, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far? And yet this was a small thing in your eyes, O Lord GOD. You have spoken also of your servant’s house for a great while to come, and this is instruction for mankind, O Lord GOD! And what more can David say to you? For you know your servant, O Lord GOD! Because of your promise, and according to your own heart, you have brought about all this greatness, to make your servant know it. Therefore you are great, O LORD God. For there is none like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears. – 2 Samuel 7:18-22

This is a prayer we shall still say today.

Adoration

Oh Holy Father, “Who am I, O Lord GOD, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far? And yet this was a small thing in your eyes, O Lord GOD. You have spoken also of your servant’s house for a great while to come, and this is instruction for mankind, O Lord GOD! And what more can we say to you? For you know your servant, O Lord GOD! Because of your promise, and according to your own heart, you have brought about all this greatness, to make your servant know it. Therefore you are great, O LORD God. For there is none like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.” (2 Samuel 7:18-22) May we remember your greatness as we continue throughout our day today! In your majestic name, Amen.

Confession

“O Father, we are gathered before you, the Maker of Heaven and Earth, whose chosen dwelling place is with the broken and contrite, to confess that we have sinned in thought and word and deed; we have not loved you with all our heart and soul, we have not loved you with all our mind and strength; we have not even loved our neighbor as ourselves. In your mercy, deepen our sorrow for the wrong we have done and for the good we have left undone, so that we may hate our sin with a holy hatred. But, please Father, do not leave us in sorrow. With you, O Lord, there is forgiveness. In your mercy, restore the joy of our salvation; so that we may love you with a holy love. Amen. ” – Missio Dei Confessional.

Thanksgiving

And on that day you will say, “Give thanks to the LORD, call on His name. Make known His deeds among the peoples; make them remember that His name is exalted.” Praise the LORD in song, for He has done glorious things; let this be known throughout the earth. – Isaiah 12:4-5

Father God, thank you for allowing us to come to you as children of the great king! Thank you of making us co-heirs to Christ. Thank you for your steadfast love till the end of days. We thank you for our family, for our church, for our community. We thank you for the opportunities you give us each day to share the gospel and tell others how there is no other God like you! No other God willing to die for those he created and love! We love you. In Jesus name, Amen.
