Introduction

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. – Matthew 10:29-30

Meditate on that verse! God is sovereign over the most insignificant events. A sparrow was thought to be the smallest of creatures, a penny the least amount of value, yet God is in control of it all. He knows every detail of our lives down to that hair that may or may not be turning grey. Oh that we rest in His love for us these 40 days leading up to Easter! God sees our value! He felt our value was enough to sacrifice his own son in order that we may live.

The words of Charles Spurgeon: “God observes the death of a sparrow, and he much more notes the lives and deaths of his people. Even the least part of his children’s bodily frame has been registered. The very hairs of their head are counted and catalogued; and, to the most minute circumstance, all their lives are under the arrangement of the Lord of love. Chance is not in our creed: the decree of the Eternal Watcher rules our destiny, and love is seen in every line of that decree.”

Adoration

Father God, you are all-powerful and majestic is your name! May we praise your sovereignty!

Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises! For God is fthe King of all the earth; sing praises gwith a psalm! God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne. The princes of the peoples gather as the people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to God; he is highly exalted! – Psalm 47:6-9

Confession

“O Father, we are gathered before you, the Maker of Heaven and Earth, whose chosen dwelling place is with the broken and contrite, to confess that we have sinned in thought and word and deed; we have not loved you with all our heart and soul, we have not loved you with all our mind and strength; we have not even loved our neighbor as ourselves. In your mercy, deepen our sorrow for the wrong we have done and for the good we have left undone, so that we may hate our sin with a holy hatred. But, please Father, do not leave us in sorrow. With you, O Lord, there is forgiveness. In your mercy, restore the joy of our salvation; so that we may love you with a holy love. Amen. ” – Missio Dei Confessional.

Father, forgive us in that we often forget how valuable we are to you. We forget that you have numbered our hairs and our days. We forget your plans for our lives and future. In your holy name, Amen.
