Introduction
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. – Genesis 1:26
Let’s not lose sight of who we are with. We travel every day with the God who created us in his image, also known as “imago dei.” Often times in this world of tribulation, we forget this truth. That we are in essence created to be a reflection of God.
French Philosopher Voltaire said, “In the beginning, God made Man in his Image. Ever since that time, Man had been returning the favor.” Some essence of this quote is repeated throughout history from many different nationalities and philosophers. God, himself says:
These things you have done, and I have been silent;
you thought that I was one like yourself.
But now I rebuke you and lay the charge before you. – Psalm 50:21
Having an accurate view of who God is allows us to reflect his character daily. As you can tell, throughout history, who God truly is can sometimes be forgotten. Living in Christ allows us to fulfill the design God created in us.
For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. – Psalm 139:13
Adoration
Almighty God, we praise you!
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. – Psalm 139:14-16
Confession
O Father, we are gathered before you, the Maker of Heaven and Earth, whose chosen dwelling place is with the broken and contrite, to confess that we have sinned against you! We have made you into our image instead of vice-versa. We have seen others through our own eyes instead of through your eyes. We have not loved our neighbors well! Please forgive us! Help us to be who you designed us to be sharing your image and light for all etenity.
Thanksgiving
How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!
If I would count them, they are more than the sand.
I awake, and I am still with you. – Psalm 139:17-18
Oh Father God, we thank you for creating us in your image! Thank you for knowing the numbers of hairs on our head! Thank you for knowing our thoughts and equipping us to share in your glory each day! Help us to share your love of others! Thank you for your mighty act of the cross. Thank you for allowing us to walk alongside you on this journey each day. Thank you for the scriptures to know you.
