Introduction
Living under the New Covenant allows us to experience more freedoms living with the Holy Spirit through the salvation of Christ. Freedoms such as freedom from condemnation, guilt, sin, death, the old covenant, and blindness to the gospel. It also includes access to the loving presence of God. Thanks to Jesus and the Holy Spirit, we are able to be transformed into the image of Christ and enjoy these freedoms.
But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. – 2 Corinthians 3:14-18
It really is a beautiful picture to imagine–being transformed into the glorious image of Christ! John Calvin said it much more eloquently of the above text:
“Observe, that the design of the gospel is this—that the image of God, which had been effaced by sin, may be stamped anew upon us, and that the advancement of this restoration may be continually going forward in us during our whole life, because God makes his glory shine forth in us by little and little.”
Thank you God for shining your glory on us!
Adoration
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name;
Bring an offering, and come before Him;
Worship the Lord in holy array. – 1 Chronicles 16:29
Oh Glorious Father, we praise you today! You are mighty and wonderful! May your praise always be on our lips and your words on our hearts! We praise you today for your holiness, your light through the darkness and your willingness to create a new covenant with us! You are majestic and worthy of all praises! Amen.
O Lord, God of Israel, there is no God like You in heaven above or on earth below; You keep Your covenant and mercy with Your servants who walk before You with all their heart.. – 1 Kings 8:23
Confession
“O Father, we are gathered before you, the Maker of Heaven and Earth, whose chosen dwelling place is with the broken and contrite, to confess that we have sinned in thought and word and deed; we have not loved you with all our heart and soul, we have not loved you with all our mind and strength; we have not even loved our neighbor as ourselves. In your mercy, deepen our sorrow for the wrong we have done and for the good we have left undone, so that we may hate our sin with a holy hatred. But, please Father, do not leave us in sorrow. With you, O Lord, there is forgiveness. In your mercy, restore the joy of our salvation; so that we may love you with a holy love. Amen. ” – Missio Dei Confessional.
